Gonstead Chiropractic

Gonstead chiropractic is a specific and highly focused approach to chiropractic care, named after its founder, Dr. Clarence S. Gonstead. It is one of the many chiropractic techniques used to address musculoskeletal issues and promote overall health and well-being.

The Gonstead chiropractic method emphasizes a thorough and precise analysis of the spine and pelvis to identify vertebral subluxations or misalignments. It is based on the principle that misalignments in the spine can interfere with the nervous system's function, leading to various health problems and discomfort.

Components of the Gonstead System are :

●  History : a thorough history of your presenting complaint, including your current health concerns, past medical history, previous injuries, and lifestyle factors. Understanding your health history helps to gain insights into your condition and identify any potential contributing factors.

●  Visualisation : your chiropractor observes your posture and gait to look for any visible signs of misalignment or asymmetry in your spine and body structure. Visual analysis provides essential initial clues about potential areas of concern.

●  Instrumentation : The Nervoscope, which detects variations in skin temperature along the spine. Temperature imbalances can indicate areas of potential nerve interference caused by subluxations.

●  Static Palpation : Static palpation where your chiropractor feels your spine and the surrounding tissues for the essence of swelling, tenderness, changes in temperature and tight muscles.

●  Motion palpation: Your chiropractor gently moves the patient's spine through various ranges of motion to feel for any restrictions or irregularities. Motion palpation helps identify dysfunctional joints and areas that may require chiropractic adjustments.

●  X-ray Analysis : This is a valuable tool to evaluate posture, joint and bone integrity, and vertebral alignment. This can rule out any pathologies or recent fracture or conditions that contributing to the patient’s health.

“To see is to know, not seeing is to guess”

By combining the information gathered from these six components, the Gonstead chiropractor can develop a comprehensive and personalized treatment plan to address the patient's specific needs effectively. The emphasis on precision, individualized care, and attention to detail makes the Gonstead system a favored approach among many chiropractors and patients alike for addressing various musculoskeletal issues and promoting overall health and well-being.

Our goal is to get you back on the road to health as quickly as possible and then give you adequate time between consultations for healing and stabilisation.

“Find the subluxation, Accept it, Correct it, and Leave it alone” - Dr. Gonstead.

Thompson Technique

The Thompson Terminal Point Technique (Thompson Drop Technique) is a specialized chiropractic approach that focuses on evaluating and adjusting the spine using a unique chiropractic table known as the Thompson Drop Table. This technique was developed by Dr. J. Clay Thompson in the 1950s.

Key features of the Thompson Terminal Point Technique:

●  Drop Table: The Thompson Drop Table is specially designed with segmented sections that can be momentarily dropped or elevated during the chiropractic adjustment. The table's sections correspond to specific regions of the spine, such as the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and pelvic areas.

●  Leg Length Analysis: The chiropractor typically performs a leg length analysis to assess the patient's pelvic alignment. Any discrepancy in leg length may indicate potential spinal misalignments or subluxations.

●  Gentle Adjustment: The chiropractor uses a gentle and precise thrust on the segmented table sections. The drop mechanism allows for quick, controlled, and low-force adjustments. The technique aims to correct spinal misalignments and restore proper joint function without causing discomfort or undue stress to the patient.

●  Patient Positioning: Patients are usually positioned face down on the drop table with cushions placed under specific body regions to facilitate optimal spinal alignment.

●  Specificity: The Thompson Terminal Point Technique allows chiropractors to target specific segments of the spine accurately, tailoring adjustments to each patient's unique needs.

●  Non-Rotational: The adjustments in this technique are typically non-rotational, meaning there is minimal twisting or rotational force applied to the spine.

Benefits of the Thompson Terminal Point Technique:

●  Precision: The segmented drop table allows for targeted and precise adjustments.

●  Low-Force: The technique is gentle and low-force, making it suitable for patients of all ages, including children and seniors.

●  Comfortable: Patients often find the technique comfortable and relaxing, with reduced muscle tension during adjustments.

●  Effective: The Thompson Terminal Point Technique can be effective in correcting spinal misalignments, promoting better joint mobility, and relieving associated symptoms.

Dry Needling

What is dry needling ?

Dry needling is a therapeutic technique performed by trained healthcare professionals, involving the insertion of thin needles into specific trigger points or tight muscle bands without injecting any substances. It aims to release muscle tension and myofascial trigger points, leading to reduced pain, improved range of motion, and enhanced function in musculoskeletal conditions. Unlike acupuncture, dry needling is grounded in modern Western medicine and works by eliciting twitch responses in muscles to break the cycle of pain and tension. However, its efficacy may vary, and it's essential to consult with a qualified practitioner to determine its suitability for individual conditions.

What to expect during dry needling procedure?

During a dry needling procedure, thin needles are inserted into specific trigger points or tight muscles, potentially causing a brief muscle twitch response. You may experience sensations like mild discomfort, dull ache, warmth, or tingling around the needled areas, and some post-treatment soreness might occur. The process typically lasts a few minutes to half an hour, with multiple sessions often needed. Individual responses vary, and post-treatment care instructions may be provided.

Post dry needling therapy :

After a dry needling procedure, you can expect some post-treatment effects. Commonly, you may experience soreness or mild discomfort in the treated areas, which usually lasts for 1-5 days, known as post-needling soreness. It's normal and often part of the healing process. You might also notice improved range of motion and reduced pain in the treated muscles, though individual responses can vary. Practitioners may recommend applying heat or ice to the treated areas, performing specific exercises, or avoiding strenuous activities temporarily to aid in recovery. If you encounter any unusual or concerning reactions, it's essential to communicate with your healthcare professional, who performed the dry needling, for appropriate guidance and care.

Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)

Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), also known as Cold Laser Therapy or Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT), is a non-invasive medical treatment that uses low-level lasers or light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to stimulate cellular function and promote tissue healing. Unlike surgical lasers, LLLT operates at low power levels that do not generate significant heat, hence the term "cold laser."

During a typical LLLT session, the handheld device emitting the low-level laser or LED is applied directly to the skin over the area of concern. The light energy penetrates the skin and interacts with cells, primarily targeting the mitochondria within cells. Mitochondria are responsible for producing energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is essential for cellular repair and regeneration.

The therapeutic effects of LLLT include:

●  Pain Relief: LLLT can reduce pain and inflammation in various conditions, including musculoskeletal disorders, joint pain, and soft tissue injuries.

●  Tissue Healing: It accelerates the healing process by promoting cellular repair and regeneration, which can be beneficial for wound healing and tissue recovery after injuries.

●  Improved Circulation: LLLT can enhance blood flow in the treated area, promoting nutrient and oxygen delivery to tissues.

●  Reduced Inflammation: LLLT helps in decreasing inflammation by modulating immune responses and reducing the release of inflammatory mediators.

●  Nerve Regeneration: It may aid in nerve function and regeneration, potentially benefiting conditions like neuropathy.

LLLT is commonly used in physical therapy, sports medicine, chiropractic care, and other medical specialties. It is considered safe, non-invasive, and relatively free of side effects. However, like any medical treatment, it may not be suitable for everyone, and individual responses can vary. It is essential to consult with a qualified healthcare professional to determine if LLLT is appropriate for your specific condition and needs.
